In Skull And Bones, ship combat presents players with various strategies. While the conventional approach involves depleting a ship’s health and sinking it to collect loot, there’s an alternative method: capturing enemy vessels.
Capturing an enemy ship can potentially yield a larger amount of loot than sinking it alone. Often, there are hidden caches of loot on ships that can only be accessed through capture. However, this method typically demands more time and effort compared to simply engaging in cannonfire with an opponent’s vessel. As such, there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to each combat approach.
Prior to being able to make that decision, you must comprehend how to board an adversary ship effectively in Skull and Bones.
Boarding foe ships in Skull and Bones
Boarding enemy ships in Skull and Bones is a straightforward process once you understand the necessary steps. Follow the instructions below to effectively board an opposing vessel:
- Weaken the enemy vessel by reducing its health to below half, using tactics such as firing cannons or colliding with it.
- Position your ship alongside the enemy vessel once its health is sufficiently depleted, choosing either the starboard or port side.
- Aim your cannons as if preparing to fire, but instead, watch for an on-screen prompt indicating “Crew Boarding.”
- Press the designated button indicated by the prompt (such as R on PC, Y on Xbox, or Triangle on PS5).
- Upon pressing the button, your ship will release several ropes equipped with hooks.
Successfully boarding the enemy ship requires at least one of these hooks to latch onto the adversary’s hull. You need to be close enough for the hooks to reach. - If your hooks secure onto the ship, a cinematic sequence will commence, depicting your crew pulling in the enemy vessel. Subsequently, a reward menu will appear, allowing you to claim some or all of the loot from the captured ship.
Press the necessary Crew Boarding button to start the boarding process.
It will probably require several attempts to master the boarding process, as there are various subtleties to grasp. For instance, the ropes your ship ejects can only reach a certain distance, and you need to guide the ropes in the appropriate direction if your ship is in motion. Moreover, I solely advocate boarding an adversary ship if you’re engaged in a one-on-one skirmish, as boarding alongside other adversary vessels firing at you can significantly reduce your ship’s HP.
Effectively boarding an adversary ship can provide you with valuable resources such as Bog Iron (employed to produce Cast Iron Ingots), Cogwheels, cannons, cannonballs, and diverse types of currency. Be cautious not to surpass your ship’s inventory weight threshold by seizing all of those additional resources, as your crew’s endurance will deplete more rapidly the greater the weight you’re carrying.
